You might as well listen to the 3 killer songs I've spliced together for you to listen to while reading the interview. I think it shows the band's progression quite well.
Considering
promoting new bands is what my blog is all about, what unknown/obscure band(s)
would you like people to know about?
Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the
Dilapidation, Illustrations, Wizard Wolf, Colonia, Criaturas, Quantis, Porkeria and Esclavo.
Where do you find out about new
music?
Last.fm, friends, zines, finding label
mates and influences of bands we listen to.
What insights into your new 7" album, Cogita Mori, would you like to talk about?
Reject
ably honoring the human condition. That push and pull of ethos. Affect. Cause
and Effect. We concern ourselves with the personal politics of life and death.
Cogita
Mori was conceptualized from an idea presented in a book about Hieronymus Bosch.
It explains the intent of his works, in which he speaks on matters of the soul,
judgement, and eternal consciousness.
Can you
describe your most recent recording experience? How does it compare to the
recording of your first release?
We had a blast, considering that we were used
to recording vocals out of a closet and instruments out of a room covered in
mattress pads.
What
formats would you like to release it on and why?
We’ve
already released it on vinyl, and of course we’ll be using the old standby,
numbered cd-r’s. And if we can get somebody to help us out, we’d definitely be
interested in releasing on tape again. (ZEGEMA BEACH RECORDS will be releasing this in early 2014)
I’ve seen
the artwork and it looks amazing. Talk about that shit.
Vladimir
Vacovsky contacted us a year prior to the release date, with an interest in
collaborating with us on the artwork for the album. We gave him a basic idea
and he ran with it. The work he did really came full circle with the concept of
the album.
How did you
become involved with React With Protest Records? They’ve put out some of my
all-time favourite releases – such as; Louise Cyphre, Raein, Buried Inside,
June Paik, Cease Upon The Capitol, Titan, Loma Prieta and Beau Navire…to name a
few.
A
beautiful stroke of fucking dumb luck. It started with a simple email to Lars. We
never anticipated being on a label with the bands we respected and listened to
growing up.
How did
you guys meet? How did you get involved in the band together?
High
School, Community College and SLSK screamo room.
Do you
have any names for particular passages in songs? (my band used to have things
like “Slayer rip-off” and “South Park” riff, we didn’t write anything original,
apparently)
Caveman Blues, Wu-tang Dove, Kevin Spacey’s
Tits Look Awesome or Janitors Believe in God.
I’m not sure if you know, but your
band is heeeeeavy. Is that something that happens on purpose, or is it just
natural?
Just taking inspiration as it comes
to us.
How has your hometown/upbringing
influenced your music?
Not really
lol.
Who were
your primary influences when you started playing music and who are they now?
When we first began this band; Gallows Holier Than the Cross, Pg. 99, Plague
Year, Celeste, Envy, Cursed and Shikari all played and continue to play an
integral role in the shape of our sound.
If you
had to slap a genre label on TENTACLES so potential new listeners could get a
good idea of your sound without hearing you, what would you label yourselves
as?
When
asked we simply respond as “intense music”.
What is
your favourite song to play live? Any particular reason?
"Wu-Tang
Dove" lol. It's just a fun song for all of us to play.
What
things have happened in 2013 thus far that you would like the readers to know
about?
We were on the brink of dissolving this band,
but are now pursuing it with more vigor than ever before.
What
music that you used to love do you look back on and shake your head at, now?
Un Loco,
Misfits, NOFX, Stabbing Westward, Atreyu, and The Unicorns.
Is there
anything of political nature that you would like to share.
We all have our own political stand points. We tend to put
that aside.
